This drawing was based on a photo I took of some kind of electrical box outside. The cracks in the box made me think of a face so I decided to use it as a reference. The face definitely went in a different direction than I was expecting, but I like the direction it went. I was originally thinking the box looked like a cracked helmet and was going to make a drawing along those lines, but I quickly diverged to the fleshy folds of the final drawing once I really got into the shape of the mouth using the large hole from the reference.

At the time, I was interested in coloured shadows and highlights in my work, so I made a bunch of variations with different colour combinations and finally combined them all into an animated GIF.
